Anthem Heart is trying something new for this year’s Art-A-Whirl festivities, that we don’t think you will want to miss out on. Building on the success of last summer’s Minneapolis t-shirt we will be doing a brand new homage to our city’s vibrant skyline. However, this time the t-shirt printing process is going LIVE and if you want one, you have to be there for the performance. Check back soon to see the new design.
Take part in an interactive process—pick and choose from various screen stencils, shirt styles and colors to create your own version of the design. The shirts will be selling for $8-$15 depending on the style. Or raid your closet for a blank t-shirt and we’ll print on it for $5.
So get down to the Q.arma Building 1224 Quincy St. NE, Studio 225, get the a limited and unique homegrown creation at recession proof prices! Expect some snacks, drinks and wheat grass shots. Dj Real Talk Radio and friends will be deejaying. Also on view, paintings by Anthem Heart collaborator, Forest Bash. Studio Hours May 15-17, Friday 5pm-10pm, Saturday Noon-8:00pm, Sunday Noon-5pm.
And if that wasn’t already enough awesome-tronic sweetness, we have one more surprise for you. When the lights of great Mother Earth go down the Q.arma Building will be showing it’s annual film screenings outside in the Q.arma yard. This year, we have been graciously allowed to help make the celluloid selects for your viewing pleasure. Come grab some food and drink and sit next to the fire.
The first film will be the Buster Keaton classic The General, followed by The Animation Show. To round of the evening we will be showing one of the greatest cult zombie films of the 80’s—Night of the Creeps. This little known and hard to find gem will be worth staying up late. If you don’t believe me, watch this little trailer I threw together…
It was that time of year for Cliche to roll out its new looks for spring 2009. Our involvement in Avoid the Grey 2009 featured work that resulted from a collaboration with designer Maritza Ramirez, who will be participating in the premiere MPLS runway and music event, Voltage Fashion Amplified in the First Ave Mainroom in April. The workflow was simple; she dropped off fabric at our studio, I printed on it, and she made some dresses and skirts. I was deejaying the show and actually had not seen the finished product until that models walked out onto the runway. It was a delightful experience all around.

We dressed the window display at Cliche but the clothes sold out before we had a chance to make more. Expect more from Maritza and Anthem Heart soon. The latest work is available at Cliche. As I am writing this post they are sold out, but I’ll be dropping off more t-shirts and dresses soon.
This month, we had the privilege of printing a drawing by internationally published cartoonist Andy Singer. The shirt design was a promo for our friend Mark Fox over at Fox Tax, LLC for their “U.S. Idealism Returns.” theme gallery exhibition.
